Sorrel Social, Guildford

Sorrel Social is at the castle end of Tunsgate, just off the High Street, in the café that used to be Krema, long one of Guildford's most dependable independents. It's guided by chef Steve Drake, who founded the Michelin-starred Sorrel in Dorking, and the idea is to bring a chef's attention to detail to coffee.

It's the same long, low-ceilinged room, which runs a surprising way back from its small frontage. The coffee is taken seriously, and the brunch goes beyond the usual, with pastries alongside. It also puts on events, so it's worth checking its Instagram.

Before you go

It opens 8am to 4pm on weekdays and 8.30am to 5pm at weekends. Guildford Castle is right opposite if you want a walk afterwards.
